Siete Calles

(Seven Streets)

From the southern grey clouds
      thunder crumples
            the early Sunday silence

¿Qué va a llevar?
      Watcha gonna take?
call the women of Seven Streets
On their stands mound pineapples & apples
      paltas, chirimoyas & papayas

In a while the drizzle begins
      & it wanes      & again
            dampens this late spring morning
The muddied streets glisten
